World Snooker Championship
Anyone on here keep an eye on this, or did you stop watching in the late 80's?

Stopped watching once the Hurricane stopped playing, I still think at his absolute best he’d have wiped the floor with Hendry or O’Sullivan

'steady' Eddie Charlton was the best of the lot.

They need to bring back proper nicknames, that’s what the sport is missing. The Hurricane, The Whirlwind, The Nugget, The Maltese Falcon, Dracula, The Grinder etc

Re: World Snooker Championship
I remember when the Hurricane nutted a ref and threatened to have Dennis Taylor shot, you won't get that from today's lot, quietly sipping their water.

Spot on mate, no characters now. Big Bill Werbeniuk would sink 40 pints a day and still score a 100 plus. Higgins would headbutt a match official, piss in a plant pot, hit a 147 and then casually go home for dinner. The worlds crap now, too many snowflakes

I watched a few frames of Ronnie's match yesterday morning it was shit.

Snooker clubs were a great late night drink for those who liked their booze….I’m guessing a lot of the old lot came from this factor….

Stopped watching when Jimmy White stopped becoming a force to be reckoned with. Can still see that missed black against Hendry! Even Steve Davis had more personality than the current lot.

I used to go to the Masters every year when it was at Wembley conference centre.
I also shared a few frames with the likes of Hann Burden and Robertson when they practised for it down the road at the Fairview club
They would give you a 100 point start and still wipe the floor with you

Sadly the sport Is and has been tarnished for several decades by betting and drug scandals.

I played Kirk Stevens at an exhibition once and he was totally off his face.

I also met Silvinho Francisco once who ended up banned from the sport working in a fish and chip shop and then getting banged up for drug smuggling.

I used to go to a couple of snooker clubs, one in Poplar, the other in Stepney. Both full of dodgy looking characters playing for (a the time), big money. Also saw many a silly sod do a weeks wages on a Thursday night trying tobwin the £250 jackpot. Great days.

The white suited Kirk Stevens.

There were so many good characters back in the 80’s - never been the same since they banned Booze and Fags!

SHAUN MURPHY

Have a look at his wiki page. He's had a strange life with women but is a brilliant player at his best.

I will be watching

Let's see if Ronnie can get his 8th and break the record

He'll have to do a lot better than he did in the opener

'Murphy's wife filed for divorce in 2009 on the grounds of infidelity after The People newspaper published an exposé revealing he had spent the night with an escort girl he had met at a religious youth group.'

Weird.
